eis ltd: kb0002: Windows2000/XP - Creating a VPN connection to a remote access NT domain

this procedure describes the steps that are required to create a remote access VPN connection to an NT domain from a Windows 2000 or XP computer

before using this procedure you will need

Log on to the Windows XP/2000 computer as an administrator
Click on the Start button, choose Settings and then Control Panel
Double-click on Network Connections
Double-click on New Connection Wizard
Click on the [Next >] button
Select 'Connect to the network at my workplace' and click on the [Next >] button
Select 'Virtual Private Network connection' and click on the [Next >] button
Enter the Company Name of the domain that you are going to connect to and click on the [Next >] button
If you need to dial a connection to access the internet:

Select 'Automatically dial this initial connection'
Choose the connection to be dialled from the list and click on the [Next >] button

Enter the IP address of the remote access server and click on the [Next >] button
Select Create this connection for 'Anyone's Use', [Next]
Click on the [Finish] button

The 'Connect <connection name>' window will open, click on the [Properties] button
Click on the Options tab
Tick the 'Include Windows logon domain' checkbox
Click on the Networking tab
Select 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' and click on the [Properties] button
The 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties' window will open, click on the [Advanced] button
The 'Advanced TCP/IP settings' window will open, untick 'Use default gateway on remote network' and click on the [OK] button
Click on the [OK] button
Click on the [OK] button
Enter your username, password and NT domain name
Click on the [Connect] button to test the connection
