Windows2000/XP - Creating a VPN connection to a remote access NT domain
description
this procedure describes the steps that are required to create a remote access VPN connection to an NT domain from a Windows 2000 or XP computer
requirements
before using this procedure you will need
- a working internet connection
- the IP address of the remote access server
- the username and password of an NT domain user who has dialin access
procedure
- Log on to the Windows XP/2000 computer as an administrator
- Click on the Start button, choose Settings and then Control Panel
- Double-click on Network Connections
- Double-click on New Connection Wizard
- Click on the [Next >] button
- Select 'Connect to the network at my workplace' and click on the [Next >] button
- Select 'Virtual Private Network connection' and click on the [Next >] button
- Enter the Company Name of the domain that you are going to connect to and click on the [Next >] button
- If you need to dial a connection to access the internet:
- Select 'Automatically dial this initial connection'
- Choose the connection to be dialled from the list and click on the [Next >] button
- Otherwise:
- Select 'Do not dial the initial connection' and click on the [Next >] button
- Enter the IP address of the remote access server and click on the [Next >] button
- Select Create this connection for 'Anyone's Use', [Next]
- Click on the [Finish] button
- The 'Connect <connection name>' window will open, click on the [Properties] button
- Click on the Options tab
- Tick the 'Include Windows logon domain' checkbox
- Click on the Networking tab
- Select 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' and click on the [Properties] button
- The 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties' window will open, click on the [Advanced] button
- The 'Advanced TCP/IP settings' window will open, untick 'Use default gateway on remote network' and click on the [OK] button
- Click on the [OK] button
- Click on the [OK] button
- Enter your username, password and NT domain name
- Click on the [Connect] button to test the connection
