Windows 95/98/ME - Using scandisk to scan hard disk drives
description
this procedure describes how to use the scandisk program to scan your hard disk drive(s). it is best to run the scandisk program in safe mode. click here to find out how to start windows in safe mode.
procedure
- click on the Start button and select 'Programs' > 'Accessories' > 'System Tools' > 'Scandisk'
- in the 'Select the drive(s) you want to check for errors:' list your first hard disk drive should already be selected
- hold down the [Ctrl] key on your keyboard and click on any other hard disk drives in the list
- if necessary, select the 'Standard' option from the 'Type of test' options
- if neccessary, untick the 'Automatically fix errors' checkbox
- click on the [Start] button
- if any errors are reported while the disk is being scanned, read the messages carefully and respond to them if you understand what they say. if you are unsure about what to do either talk to your computer support team, complete our problem reporting form, or call EIS Ltd on 0845 456 1228
