Testing a backup

this procedure will tell you how to check that files have been successfully backed up to your media.

requirements

before using this procedure you will need

1. Your backup test log sheet. Click here to download a backup test log sheet
2. The media that you are going to test
3. A folder to restore your test files into

procedure

• To test a backup, use the Restoring a file procedure but don't do the last section: Moving the file to it's original location.
• Write the date and time onto the backup test log sheet.
• Write the name or label of the tape into the 'Media ID' column of the backup test log sheet
• Write 'OK' or 'Not OK' into the 'Result' column of the backup test log sheet
• Write your name or initials into the 'Tested by' column of the backup test log sheet
• If there were any problems then complete the online 'backup test form'
